Uncovering Phuket’s Best Night Markets

For an authentic cultural experience, nothing beats a stroll through one of Phuket’s many local markets. With products unique to southern Thailand, you can immerse yourself in local culture and sample traditional foods and goods which are specific to this region. We have compiled a short selection of Phuket’s vibrant night markets to help you enrich your travel experience and support the local community:

Phuket Walking Street Market

This is a hugely popular attraction in the heart of Phuket Town and is made up of traditional local foods and Thai handicrafts. Also referred to as ‘Lard Yai Market’ by locals, this historic street turns into a bustling market road every Sunday evening. There is a family friendly feel with entertainment, live music and plenty of stalls for all ages. The iconic bright and pastel coloured Sino-Portuguese shop houses and mural graffiti walls also add to the overall charm of this night market, as well as providing interesting photo backgrounds.

Fun Friday Avenue Market

Every Friday evening, this through road in the heart of Boat Avenue, close to Laguna Phuket is transformed into a market walking street. This is a popular affair, with its vibrancy and bustle drawing people of all ages to the offer of authentic Thai cuisine, clothing, art, jewellery and souvenirs. Entertainment is plentiful with cocktail stands, drink stations, live music, fun performances, plus children focussed activities such as painting and crafts. Perfect for an entire evening of shopping, entertainment and dining.

Location: Boat Avenue, Cherngtalay

Chillva Night Market

This is one of Phuket’s most exciting and trendy night markets with a somewhat bohemian vibe to it. The colourful shipping containers used as shopfronts give the market a unique appearance and the hours easily slip away whilst exploring the impressive selection of fashion, food and drink stalls. Stock up on souvenirs for yourself, or perhaps grab a few gifts such as clothing, crafts and accessories to take home to friends and family. Although these recycled containers are open every day, the ideal time to visit is on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday evening when the area gets filled with tents and small hawker booths for this night market.

Phuket Indy Market @ Limelight

Although more modest than some of the other markets in Phuket, this is still worth a visit as a fun and creative night market in the Old Town area. Held at Limelight Avenue, a small lane off Dibuk Road, it has proved a popular place for younger Thais and is known for its entertainment and extensive range of homemade foods. With so many local delicacies to sample, it is a great spot for dinner with the opportunity to try inexpensive and traditional cuisine, from BBQ seafood to Thai spicy salads and much more.

Phuket Weekend Market

Also referred to as Naka Market, this is one of the largest night markets in Phuket. It takes place in Phuket Town, near to Central Festival every Saturday and Sunday evening. This is more than just a market experience; it is like an event in itself and draws large crowds making it quite busy and often crowded. With such a diverse range of goods on sale, you could take hours to navigate the space. However, they have split this weekend market into two main areas, which consist of a food section and a shopping section, for added browsing convenience.

Opening Hours: Saturday – Sunday 16:00 – 21:00
Location: Chao Fa West Road, Wat Nak
